LITTLE STUFF

back to designs

Little Stuff is a traditional "pointed bow" row boat.   Designed for wood strip construction, she is ideal for exercise, fishing, or use as a tender on larger boats.

Specifications:  9' LOA, 48" beam, 80 pounds empty.  450 pound payload. Outboard power up to 5 HP.  The plans can be "stretched" + or - 2’, and a sail rig is optional.

Good first project.

The full scale patterns include the temporary frames (#1-5), the transom, and the stem. All have waterlines and centerlines for correct alignment. The nose of the stem frame is stripped as shown, then shaped to fit the hull strips. Glue the first stem strip to the frame with a minimum amount of glue so you can remove it easily.

All frames have a 1/4" allowance for strips. 3/4" plywood makes a good frame material. I layout a center line and waterline on the plywood, then align the pattern and mark the wood with a nail prick every inch or so. The pattern can then be flipped over, re-aligned, and the other side marked using the original nail holes.

I normally let the strips extend 6" past the transom. After the outside is glassed and the boat removed from the frames, the actual transom can be installed and glassed in place.
