CONSTRUCTION PHOTOS OF NESTOR
ASSEMBLY DETAILS
Full size patterns of side and bottom panels are taped to plywood and both pieces cut out using a skill saw. Its about as easy to lay out the curves using a table of offsets and a wooden batten.
The sides have been attached to the center bulkheads and are now being bent inward and attached to the transom and bow bulkheads. Dry wall screws work well here, and are easy to remove after the joints are epoxied.
All the panels are in place and the seams are being pulled into alignment and closed with wire or cable ties. The drywall screws have been adjusted to minimize distortion in the panels. Before turning the boat over, the seams will be covered with duct tape to catch any extra epoxy.
NESTOR is looking more like a boat. Notice that the doublers placed around the edges of the bulkheads have been beveled 45 degrees and a pair of handholds have been cut into the transom. The boat has been blocked level, checked for twist and racking, and is ready for the "glue" part of "stitch and glue" construction. Total time to this point is 16 hours.
