I specialize in computer faired, variants of proven hull shapes, both soft and hard chines. Many of my small boat designs use wood strips to define the basic shape, and fiberglass cloth (both inside and out) for strength and stiffness. Building time is greater then "stitch and tape" construction, but any shape is possible and the boats are beautiful, sturdy, and easy to maintain. Wood strip construction is also simple to learn, and does not require any special tools. Most plans include full scale, computer faired (accurate), frame patterns (original color plots, not copies), building instructions, and a list of material suppliers, hardware sources and reference books.
All designs are developed and faired using PROLINES 98 yacht design software. The building patterns are exported from PROLINES into AutoCAD LT, where the construction drawings are developed, and into Rhino 3D for surface modeling. The final prints, including full size patterns, are plotted with an 8 pen HP Draftmaster plotter on heavy vellum media. This is a very accurate process and no manual lofting is required. If desired, the drawings can be provided in a variety of digital formats.
